What do accounting and yoga have in common? To me,
they’re both about balance!
As an accountant who worked in public accounting for several years,
working long hours and weekends during tax season and as a controller
of two regions of a printing company, I know all too well the stress
that work can create in our lives.
I was first introduced to yoga, by my now husband, in 2003. At the time
I was living in Houston and traveling to Atlanta weekly for work. I
continued this life-style for over a year and a half and it was leaving
me feeling tired, stressed and out of balance. At the end of 2003, I
moved to Atlanta.
During the next year, while practicing yoga on a regular basis, I found
that I was able to relieve stress. I began to notice that I did not
think about work while I was practicing and I was a much happier and
more pleasant person to be around when I was practicing.
I began to realize that I was always putting work first. Yoga allowed
me to see what is really important in my life and helped me to create a
work-life balance. I knew that I had to share this knowledge with
others.
Having found myself more centered and balanced, I am able to pass along
the gift of yoga to my students.
